Somila Mjekula is an accomplished strategic communications and advocacy specialist with over 13 years of experience driving impactful initiatives across media, education, and international development. With a Master’s Degree in Media and Cultural Studies, she has worked extensively in the higher education sector, grassroots organisations, and global non-profits, leading communications, programme development, and monitoring & evaluation efforts. Her career spans roles in donor organisations, advocacy campaigns, and multi-stakeholder initiatives, where she has shaped compelling narratives, strengthened knowledge-sharing frameworks, and supported organisations in amplifying their voices for social change.

As Content and Communications Lead, Somila drives the organisation’s storytelling, knowledge management, and digital engagement strategies. Before joining YIELD Hub, she led communications and advocacy for a donor organisation and worked as a project writer, proofreader, and editor for university-based education and community engagement initiatives.
